This mirror of water, on Ortigia island, tells the legendary love story of Aretusa and Alfeo. Alfeo, divinity of the river, fell in love with Aretusa, a nymph of hunting goodness Diana. To escape from Alfeo, Aretusa was transformed in a natural source and from Greece ran to Sicily, to Ortigia island and transformed into a fountain. Alfeo crazy in love was transformed into a river and from Greece joined Aretusa in Siracusa. In this magic fountain their waters are mixed together for the eternity.
